Deftones launched their North American tour on Friday (August 22) with a transcendent concert in Vancouver, Canada.
The performance took place on the same day the band’s new album, Private Music, was released. As to be expected, several songs were given their live debut during the set: “My Mind Is a Mountain,” “Infinite Source,” and “Milk of the Madonna.”
Many of the band’s classic tunes were featured throughout the set, including “My Own Summer (Shove It),” “Diamond Eyes,” and the timeless White Pony track, “Change (In the House of Flies).”
The band took a moment to honor Brent Hinds, the former Mastodon guitarist who was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident earlier in the week. “I want to dedicate this song to a very dear friend, Mr. Brent Hinds,” Deftones frontman Chino Moreno declared before the band began playing “Entombed.” It marked the first time Deftones had played the song in concert since 2017.

Deftones’ headlining shows will continue through the end of September. The band also has several major festivals on its calendar, including Shaky Knees, Louder Than Life, and Aftershock. They’ll also headline their Dia De Los Deftones festival on November 1st in San Diego.
