A new movie inspired and produced by Green Day will hit the big screen in September.
The flick, titled New Years Rev, was written and directed by Lee Kirk. In a post on social media, Green Day dished on the film’s plot.
“So big news, we made a movie!” the band wrote, describing New Years Rev as “a wild road trip coming of age comedy.”
“[It’s] about a garage band (played by Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust) who think they’ve scored the gig of their lives… opening for us. Except, plot twist, it’s actually a prank.”
The band noted the film will be “packed with all of your favorite Green Day songs, loaded with mischief, and lots of familiar faces… This film is our love letter to all of our favorite road trip movies, ‘90s nostalgia, and chasing it all no matter how ridiculous it gets.”
According to IMDB, the cast includes former Saturday Night Live cast member Fred Armisen, Sean Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), comedian Bobby Lee and two alumns of The Office — Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey. All three members of Green Day – Billie Joe Armstrong, Tre Cool and Mike Dirnt – appear in the film, as well as serving as co-producers.
New Years Rev will get its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 12. Tickets to the screening are already sold out, but Green Day promised fans the Toronto date “is just the beginning” – hopefully hinting at a broader streaming or theatrical release.
