In one of the most genuine – and surprising – music moments of the year, Sublime treated fans to an unexpected concert in a Taco Bell drive-thru. The band even debuted a brand new song before paying for everyone’s food in line.
Fresh off a sold-out show at the CMAC Event Center in New York, Sublime rolled up to a local Taco Bell late at night. With only the drive-thru open, the tour bus couldn’t squeeze through the lane. Co-manager Joe Escalante explains:
“A few of the guys were hungry after the show, so we found a Taco Bell. The bus couldn’t fit through the drive-thru, and walking up wasn’t an option with all the cars in line. So we thought, hey — maybe there are some Sublime fans in there. Why not join their orders and have some fun with it?”
As soon as fans noticed the bus, the line came alive. Jakob Nowell poked his head out, and people began leaving their cars to surround the tour bus. That’s when Jakob and Zayno grabbed acoustic guitars, jumped off, and started jamming.
The drive-thru quickly turned into a mini-concert. After a few songs, Jakob realized the line was slowing down and shouted:
“Taco Bell on Sublime tonight!”
The band picked up the tab for everyone’s food, creating a surreal mix of free tacos, autographs, photos, and live music. To top it all off, the guys slipped in a brand-new track from their upcoming record — making its debut alongside Nachos BellGrande and Baja Blasts.
The unnamed track featured the lyrics: “But I can’t miss you babe, no I can’t complain / The people that I used to love are all dead to me now / I don’t miss them, babe.”
As Escalante put it with a laugh:
“Classic Sublime — we premiered a new song in a Taco Bell drive-thru, served with a Nacho BelGrande. HAHAHA.”
