Watch Dave Grohl And Shane Hawkins Join Taylor Hawkins’ Side Project “Chevy Metal”

Taylor Hawkins, drummer for the Foo Fighters, died abruptly last year at the age of 50. Hawkins’ friend and bandmate Dave Grohl has been paying Hawkins ongoing honour ever then, even while his band has resumed operations. Taylor’s adolescent son Shane Hawkins sang “My Hero” with the Foo Fighters at last year’s Wembley Stadium memorial event, and he also performed “I’ll Stick Around” with the band earlier this summer when they headlined the Boston Calling Festival. Grohl and Shane Hawkins joined Taylor Hawkins’ side band Chevy Metal this week to perform a set of classic-rock covers at Harley’s Valley Bowl in Simi Valley, California.

Shane Hawkins and Dave Grohl led Chevy Metal through a set of covers at the bowling alley’s Rock N Roll Pizza Bar on Monday night. This was hardly a sombre event. Instead, the band performed high-energy party tunes by Van Halen, Queen, the Kinks, Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, and Spinal Tap. They also had a few visitors.

Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers joined Chevy Metal for their show-closing song of AC/DC’s “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap,” while Jane’s Addiction’s Stephen Perkins sat in on Queen’s “Tie Your Mother Down” and David Bowie’s “Moonage Daydream.” Is there a group chat for all the drummers from renowned ’90s alt-rock bands?
