Perhaps you could assume the role of the new guitarist for the Smashing Pumpkins. Last Friday, the iconic alt-rock pioneers, led by Billy Corgan, issued an open call to the public, inviting guitarists to submit their applications.
Evidently, the Smashing Pumpkins are on the lookout for a new second guitarist to join Corgan onstage following the departure of long-time guitarist Jeff Schroeder in October 2023.
“The Smashing Pumpkins are in search of an additional guitarist,” reads the band’s public announcement on social media. “The application process is open to anyone who might be interested.”
They further specify, “Applicants may submit a resume and related materials to: SPGuitar@redlightmanagement.com.”
In the previous year, the Smashing Pumpkins’ current core trio, consisting of Corgan, James Iha, and Jimmy Chamberlin, addressed Schroeder’s exit in a collective statement, expressing their gratitude: “We thank Jeff for his ceaseless dedication to the band and our great fans. Words cannot express our gratitude and appreciation for the friend he is, and being there for SP in the good times and the tough times, too.”
Schroeder himself elaborated on his decision, stating, “The amount of incredible memories created over the last 16 years with the band are almost too numerous to quantify. Although it was a very difficult decision to make, I’ve decided to leave the band to make some space to explore a slightly different path.”
Joining the Smashing Pumpkins in 2007 after the reunion of Corgan and Chamberlin for the recording of Zeitgeist, Schroeder played on each subsequent studio album. He was the sole official member credited, aside from Corgan, on 2014’s Monuments to an Elegy.
