Paramore fans can now breathe a sigh of relief, according to reports from Variety citing sources close to the band. The recent social media wipe was explained as a consequence of the band officially becoming free agents after fulfilling their recording contract with Atlantic Records.
The band had hinted at the conclusion of their time with Atlantic in a December UPROXX interview, stating, “Now that Paramore has spent the year touring behind This Is Why, a chapter of the band’s career has come to a close. They’ve now fulfilled all label obligations and are effectively free agents. As for the future of Paramore, all three members agreed that there’s a level of uncertainty.”
Despite the uncertainty, the article emphasized the band’s commitment to staying together and having fun. Hayley Williams expressed, “The only thing that matters is we will still get to be each other’s community,” with Zac Farro adding, “I just hope we can keep building the Paramore empire and then rule the world.”
While fans were initially taken aback by the sudden social media cleanse, speculation arose, and expectations were high for a swift resolution. However, as of early January, their Instagram and X accounts remain mostly empty, except for an Instagram Stories announcement about their withdrawal from the ALTer EGO radio festival. Notably, the group’s official website now displays a “404 Not Found” error.
Despite concerns fueled by the festival cancellation and the band’s social media disappearance, Variety’s sources clarified that the move was a result of the band’s contract expiration with Atlantic. Currently, only their Facebook account appears to retain an archived history. Regarding the concert cancellation, insiders informed Variety that it was indeed a scheduling conflict, dispelling breakup rumors.
Paramore continues to have scheduled dates with Taylor Swift later in the year.
