Americana Vibes Presents: Andy Hall Collaborates with Billy Strings on “Muscle Car” Single from Upcoming Album
Andy Hall, renowned dobro player of The Infamous Stringdusters, joins forces with GRAMMY-award-winning guitarist Billy Strings in their latest single titled “Muscle Car.” This highly-anticipated track is part of Hall’s forthcoming album, “Squareneck Soul,” set to be released on June 23rd via Americana Vibes.
Experience the exhilarating combination of Hall’s dobro virtuosity and Strings’ electrifying guitar performance in this energetic and fast-paced single. Accompanying the release is an animated music video with a video game theme, featuring a pixelated Hall driving a red Ford Mustang powered by a magical dobro.
Embark on a captivating journey as Hall races to make it to a performance, traversing through the picturesque mountains of Colorado, the awe-inspiring Grand Canyon, and even outer space. The chase culminates with Hall triumphantly soaring above the California Aqueduct in Ventura County, successfully completing his expedition to the show.
Hall is joined by his fellow Infamous Stringduster, Travis Book, on bass, along with rising bluegrass star Sierra Hull on mandolin, and prodigious banjoist Wes Corbett from the Sam Bush Band. Together, they present ten fresh compositions in “Squareneck Soul,” designed to serve as templates for improvisation and pickin’. The album’s title alludes to the unique squareneck dobro/resonator guitar setup, played with a bar or slide exclusively in lap style, making it an instrument that captivates both sonically and visually.
“I take great pride in being an ambassador for this unusual, yet fascinating instrument,” Hall shares. “When people hear its distinctive sound and see it being played, their faces light up. It’s not a widely exposed instrument, and I absolutely love witnessing people’s reactions to it.”
The release of “Squareneck Soul” follows Hall’s 2020 solo album, “12 Bluegrass Classics for Resophonic Guitar,” featuring a collection of timeless bluegrass songs that influenced his musical journey. Additionally, he released the ambient album “A Universe Within” in 2021, a project born out of curiosity and catharsis during the pandemic. However, “Squareneck Soul” marks Hall’s first full band release under his own name since his critically acclaimed 2008 album, “The Sound of Slide Guitar,” which earned him the prestigious Instrumental Recorded Performance of the Year award at the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Awards.
Hall will be hitting the road this summer with The Infamous Stringdusters, delighting audiences with a series of club shows and festival performances. Catch them live at esteemed events such as Suwannee Spring Reunion, Charm City Bluegrass Festival, DelFest, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, and more.
Don’t miss out on the exceptional collaboration between Andy Hall and Billy Strings in “Muscle Car.” Stay tuned for the release of “Squareneck Soul” on June 23rd, brought to you by Americana Vibes.
