Garbage Set to Release Eighth Studio Album Let All That We Imagine Be The Light on May 30
Alternative rock pioneers Garbage are back with their highly anticipated eighth studio album, Let All That We Imagine Be The Light, slated for release on May 30, 2025. The album was recorded across multiple locations, including Red Razor Sounds in Los Angeles, Butch Vig’s Grunge Is Dead studio, and Shirley Manson’s bedroom, bringing a unique and personal touch to its production. The band collaborated once again with longtime engineer Billy Bush, who co-produced the record alongside Garbage.
Following the success of 2021’s No Gods No Masters—which debuted at No. 5 on the U.K. album charts and received some of the best critical acclaim of the band’s career—Garbage’s latest effort promises to deliver a fresh yet unmistakably signature sound.
Shirley Manson on the Album’s Message
Reflecting on the inspiration behind the album, lead vocalist Shirley Manson shares:
“Going into making this record, I was determined to find a more hopeful, uplifting world to immerse myself in. The title, Let All That We Imagine Be The Light, perfectly encapsulates the essence of this album. When things feel dark, it’s imperative to seek out the forces of light, positivity, and beauty. It almost feels like a matter of survival.”
Manson further elaborates on the contrast between this record and its predecessor:
“Our last album was extremely forthright—born out of frustration and outrage, with a scorched-earth quality. With this new record, I felt compelled to seek out a different energy—one that is constructive. I had this vision of us emerging from the underground with searchlights, moving toward the future, searching for life, love, and all the good things that seem so scarce in the world right now.”
The Signature Garbage Sound
Fans can expect the unmistakable Garbage sound throughout the album. The band continues to blend angular guitars, precise and propulsive beats, and cinematic soundscapes, all anchored by Shirley Manson’s bristling vocals and evocative lyrics. The album reflects the band’s ability to balance light and shade, bringing a mix of energy, attitude, and introspection.
Garbage’s Enduring Legacy
Comprising Shirley Manson, Duke Erikson, Steve Marker, and Butch Vig, Garbage has maintained a strong presence in the alternative rock scene for nearly 30 years. Since their debut in 1995, they have sold over 20 million albums, garnered worldwide recognition, and influenced generations of musicians with their innovative sound, songwriting, and electrifying live performances.
