The Ataris Release New Version of Fan-Favorite “In This Diary”
The Ataris dropped a treat for fans today as they get set for the May 2 release of “Car Song,” the debut single from their first full-length album of new material since 2007’s Welcome The Night. In advance of a new original song, the band are revisiting one of their most iconic hits by releasing an acoustic rendition of the fan-favorite “In This Diary.” This reimagined take offers a fresh and heartfelt perspective on the track that helped define a generation of early-2000s alternative rock fans. 
The Ataris have been hard at work on the new album in between tour dates by recording organically with vintage tones, brought to life through the warmth of analog tape. The first track, “Car Song,” is a deeply personal track dedicated to frontman Kristopher Roe’s father, a lifelong supporter of the band.
Formed in 1996, The Ataris built a devoted following through relentless touring and emotionally charged songwriting. After gaining momentum with indie label Kung Fu Records, they signed to Columbia Records and released their major label debut, So Long, Astoria, in 2003. The album featured hits like “In This Diary,” “The Saddest Song,” and their gold-certified cover of “The Boys of Summer,” ultimately selling over a million copies and solidifying their place in the era’s alternative rock scene.
Now, with new music, reimagined classics, and their first full-length album in nearly two decades on the way, The Ataris are proving their story is far from over.
Fans can catch them on tour throughout 2025, including festival appearances such as RIOT FEST and a slot on the main stage at Aftershock Festival this October.
