Watch Shane Hawkins Crush His Late Father’s Favorite Foo Fighters Song

Shane Hawkins, the 18-year-old son of late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, recently delivered a powerful rendition of one of his father’s favorite tunes.

It happened in England last Thursday, May 29, during a drum clinic at The Dead Famous, a local bar in Newquay. During the session, the younger Hawkins acknowledged that his dad’s favorite Foo track was “Low,” and not “Aurora” as was commonly believed.

“People say that song ‘Aurora’ was his favorite to play, but that’s a lie,” Shane explained. “Dave never let him play… Well, Dave [Grohl] did let him play it with [Foo Fighters], but it’s a fucking hard one to do all together.” Shane soon launched into the track, showcasing his prodigious drumming talents. Check out the video below.

Released on 2002’s One by One, “Low” is one of the Foo Fighters’ most blistering tracks. By comparison, “Aurora” – from 1999’s There Is Nothing Left to Lose – is a more heart-wrenching and introspective tune. Perhaps that’s why Grohl opted to regularly use the song as a tribute to Taylor Hawkins during Foo Fighters concerts following the drummer’s death in 2022.

Foo Fighters have a handful of dates lined up for October, but who will be behind the kit remains a mystery. Following the group’s dismissal of Josh Freese last month, rumors about Shane possibly becoming the band’s new drummer have continued to swirl. While he and the Foos have remained quiet on the subject, Hawkins did announce that he’ll be touring with Chevy Metal – Taylor’s beloved cover band side project – this summer.
