Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello joined in the ongoing protests against ICE in Los Angeles, sharing pictures and videos from his experience on social media.
“Made some friends in Boyle Heights an DTLA yesterday,” the musician captioned his post, which included a series of images from two separate protests. Morello held up various signs with phrases like “Defend LA” and “Organize, Unite, Defend.” Meanwhile, the words “Destroy American Fascism” were emblazoned on the guitarist’s shirt.
In a video included in the post, the rocker was embedded in a large crowd of cheering protestors. “We got the cops to turn around, head back,” he declared in the clip, “because they saw what’s coming”.
That Morello would participate in the demonstration is hardly surprising. The guitarist is one of rock’s loudest political activists, taking aim at everything from voter rights and immigration reform to civil liberties and environmentalism. The guitarist’s full Instagram post can be seen below.
Tom Morello’s Scorn for Donald Trump
Morello has also continually expressed contempt for Donald Trump. The president has been criticized for his handling of the protests in Los Angeles, with many observers suggesting he made matters worse by involving the national guard.
Prior to the ICE protests in Los Angeles, Trump grabbed headlines for engaging in a war of words with Bruce Springsteen – one of many celebrities who have shared their distaste for the president.
“Bruce is going after Trump because Bruce, his whole life, he’s been about truth, justice, democracy, equality,” Morello, a longtime friend of Springsteen, declared during his performance at the Boston Calling festival. “And Trump is mad at him because Bruce draws a bigger audience. Fuck that guy!”
