If you were hoping for Jane’s Addiction to kiss and make up, we’ve got bad news – Dave Navarro is suing his former bandmate Perry Farrell for assault and battery following their 2024 on-stage altercation.
The incident took place on September 13th, 2024, during what was supposed to be a celebratory reunion tour for the group’s classic lineup. During a performance at Boston’s Leader Bank Pavilion, an enraged Farrell shoved and punched Navarro before being separated by bassist Eric Avery and the band’s crew. The turmoil reportedly continued backstage, where Navaro says Farrell “threw another unexpected punch at him, striking him on the left side of the face.”
The altercation immediately brought the tour to a halt as Jane’s Addiction canceled all of their remaining shows. Navarro has since said he’ll never perform with Farrell again.
In the newly revealed lawsuit, the guitarist claims his frontman had been growing erratic during the trek. Farrell reportedly tried to quit prior to the tour’s start, angered that the other members of the band voted against having his wife, Etty Lau Farrell, dance on stage during their shows.
Further accusations claim Farrell “regularly appeared onstage in an advanced state of intoxication. He would often drink wine onstage and slur his speech. Perry frequently went on long, rambling discursions between songs for no apparent purpose other than for his own amusement. The problems with Perry’s performance would often worsen as the night wore on and he became more intoxicated.”
Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins are joining Navarro in the suit, claiming emotional distress, negligence, and breach of contract. The musicians are seeking a minimum of $10 million in damages from Farrell.
