Tool is known for their distinctive and incredibly complicated prog metal sound – which makes the recent feat by YouTube drummer Tyler Visser all the more impressive.
In a recently uploaded video, Visser plowed through (almost) every song in Tool’s discography, a marathon performance that took seven-and-a-half hours. Only the rarities “Sweat” and “Disgustipated” were left out, reportedly due to copyright reasons.
The performance was impressive, though even Visser himself noted it wasn’t perfect. Frankly, we’re exhausted just watching the video.
“My attempt at drumming through Tool’s discography in one take,” Visser wrote in the video’s caption. “I want to thank my family and friends for the endless support! I also want to thank everyone else for taking the time to share this experience with me. I have definitely gained a greater level of appreciation for the compositional work of Danny Carey and Tool. Although I do not do Danny complete justice, being able to move past mistakes is something I learned. While I wish I could go back to fix things, I also feel a sense of accomplishment being able to complete something that was once just an idea.”
Visser is clearly a Tool fan, having previously performed the band’s albums Lateralus, Fear Inoculum and 10,000 Days in full. Of course, those video ONLY ran around an hour to an hour-and-a-half — child’s play compared to the marathon set.
If you’ve got nearly eight hours to waste today, go ahead and watch the performance below. Since everyone questions what they see on the internet these days, Visser also uploaded separate videos showing different camera angles of his feat. At time of writing, the main video had already amassed more than 139k views.
