Birdsong

Mynd Reader Spreads Its Wings With ‘Birdsong,’ a Soulful Rock Resurrection From Forthcoming Debut Album

There’s a rare kind of song that doesn’t just move through your speakers; it moves through you. “Birdsong,” the new single from Mynd Reader, is one of those tracks. Equal parts cinematic and soulful, it’s a meditation on love, loss, and the spark that keeps us alive through it all.

With a slow-building fire soaked in lush strings and soulful grit, “Birdsong” feels like a resurrection. It begins tender and reflective, then lifts into something sweeping and alive, a rock hymn that hits the head, heart, and gut all at once.

At the song’s core are Shelby Kemp’s smoky, lived-in vocals, Brian Sachs’ pulse-heavy percussion, and multi-instrumentalist Tonin’s textured guitar lines. Together, they build a sound both timeless and fresh, like if The Black Crowes, Chris Stapleton, My Morning Jacket, and Wilco collided.

“‘Birdsong’ is about the cycles of life, heartbreak, healing, and the redemptive power of connection,” says drummer and lyricist Sachs. “It’s cinematic, with this incredible string arrangement that gives it a sense of emotional lift, almost like a resurrection. It starts intimate and reflective, then builds into something epic and transcendent. It’s one of those songs that carries you somewhere.”

Mixed by seven-time Grammy winner Michael Brauer (Coldplay, The Rolling Stones, My Morning Jacket), the song glows with analog warmth and dynamic power, a perfect blend of classic rock soul and modern cinematic depth.

Following their breakout run of singles, Mynd Reader is gaining strong momentum. Their recent track “Home” climbed to No. 2 on the SMR Rock Chart, while “Mourning Light” cracked the Billboard 200 AAA chart this month, debuting at No. 122. Both songs have helped augment the band’s reputation as one of modern rock’s most inspired new forces.

“Birdsong” isn’t just another single; it’s a statement. It’s the sound of rebirth, of finding light in the wreckage, of remembering why rock and roll still matters. It’s rock and roll redemption.
