White Denim New Album

White Denim Announce New Album 13, Share Psychedelic Funk Statement “(God Created) Lock And Key”

White Denim have announced their new album 13, due out April 24 via Bella Union. The record marks the Austin/Los Angeles Based band’s thirteenth full-length release, a fitting milestone for a project rooted in tension, reinvention, and creative independence.

Community and connection sit at the heart of 13. Frontman James Petralli describes the album as a reflection of lived experience, grappling with power, generational cycles of abuse, shame, violence, and survival while reaffirming the importance of family and artistic freedom. Sonically, the album moves fluidly through rock, funk, dub-inflected calypso, soul, blues, and sunlit pop, expanding White Denim’s groove-forward DNA.

The band have also shared the album’s lead single and opening track, “(God Created) Lock And Key”, a pungent, psych-funk statement that opens with wry self-mythology before plunging into darker territory. Insapired in part by the experimental spirit of artists like Captain Beefheart and Sun Ra, the track unfolds in unpredictable movements, exploding, collapsing, and disappearing with visceral intent.

The song arrives alongside an official music video directed by cinematographer O’Connor Hartnett. Shot with an intimate understanding of Petralli’s home-studio process and family life, the video reflects themes of introspection, proximity, and community. Watch the video below:

13 features contributions from current band members Michael Hunter and Matt Young, alongside original drummer Josh Block. Additional collaborators include Owen Pallett, Jesse Chandler Kosta Galanopoulos, and Griffin and Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes.

White Denim will support the album with a spring U.S. tour beginning in late May. Tickets go on sale Friday, January 23 at 10 a.m. local time. Full tour details are available via the band’s official website.
