Mynd Reader is drawing some serious Southern soul-rock vibes with their new self-titled debut LP, Mynd Reader. From the opening notes, it feels like stepping back in time, a
wave of nostalgia carried by a rhythm that immediately pulls you in. Mynd Reader’s powerhouse frontman leads the charge on this 10-track concept record.
“Radio Warning” echoes an evocative message of no turning back. This track will ignite your craving for the rest of what is to come. “Simply Avanti” feels reminiscent of pain leaving the soul, keeping the hope a better day will come. I personally fell in love with “Falling Down”, such a familiar feeling. Lovesick and lost, an all-consuming ache- I think we can all relate. The soulful bluesy track sheds light on love that may have been lost but remains.
“Leaving Our Lives” feels like an escape from the torrential downpour that can make life feel unbearably heavy. It’s what we need right now, to feel free of it all. Its soothing, and uplifting sexy track, I am obsessed! Dive into “Mourning Light,” an epic blast of vocals and instrumentals that revives the soul. This soaring, heartfelt track carries me straight back to my mountain memories.
“Mynd Reader” is a layered instrumental with a hypnotic feel that slowly pulls you in. “Home” is a soulful reflection on the need for a place to call home, the feeling of happiness and contentment, even amid life’s chaos. “Birdsong” feels like a poetic, dark glimpse of heartbreak and life’s tribulations. But also the strength we have, the resilience in us all.
Their music carries a powerful presence that’s impossible to ignore. This stunning debut record was steeped from survival and salvation; music that sounds like it was raised on southern soil, and truth. This is a musical journey that explores the human experience from pain to pleasure.
