Puscifer Expand “The Pusciverse” With New Comic Series Ahead of Normal Isn’t

Puscifer have never treated their music as a closed system. Albums bleed into characters, characters spill into videos, and storylines linger long after the last note fades. Now, as the band prepares to release Normal Isn’t—their first album in five years—Puscifer are extending that universe even further with Tales From the Pusciverse, their first-ever comic book series.

The debut issue centers on Bellendia Black, a character first introduced in the video for Normal Isn’t track “Pendulum,” and serves as a narrative entry point into the band’s increasingly dense mythology. Written by Maynard James Keenan, the comic blends dark humor, social commentary, and surrealism in the same spirit that has defined Puscifer’s music and visuals since the project’s inception.

Visually, the series pairs Keenan’s writing with artwork by Marlin Shoop (G.I. Joe, Captain Action) and Andy Belanger (Kill Shakespeare, Friday the 13th), with lettering by veteran comic artist Jack Morelli (Afterlife with Archie, Marvel Comics). Issue #1 reportedly includes an “interview” between Keenan and Bellendia, blurring the line between creator and character in a way that feels quintessentially Puscifer.

More than a side project, Tales From the Pusciverse functions as a companion piece to Normal Isn’t, deepening the themes and personas that populate the album. Future issues are set to explore familiar figures from the band’s orbit, including Billy D, Major Douche, and Agent Dick Merkin—characters who have long existed at the intersection of satire, performance art, and world-building.

Issue #1 arrives in January via Puscifer.com, positioning the comic as a narrative prelude to Normal Isn’t, out February 6. Together, the album and comic reinforce what Puscifer have always made clear: this isn’t just a band—it’s an ecosystem, and the story is still unfolding.
