Aaron Bruno, the multi platinum force behind AWOLNATION, has joined forces with Makua Rothman to release the official music video for their standout collaboration “Catch A Wave,” now streaming on YouTube.
Directed by Justin Warren, the video delivers a striking black and white visual that leans into surreal storytelling. Makua races through the streets of Los Angeles, trying to escape a towering cyclops version of Aaron Bruno that tears through the city in pursuit. The playful concept adds an unexpected layer to a song rooted in something far more meaningful.

“I wrote the song about a fellow surfer passing away in the water. It never felt appropriate to release on my own. Then I met Makua, and given the big wave champion that he is, the timing felt right,” commented Aaron Bruno.
Makua Rothman added, “Music gives us a way to bring back the memories of our friends who have passed and help carry their legacies forward. The song is a way to make sure they are not forgotten.”
“Catch A Wave” continues to gain traction as one of 2026’s most compelling alternative releases. The single is currently climbing the Alternative Radio charts sitting just outside the Top 40.
The collaboration began when Bruno and Rothman crossed paths on AWOLNATION’s Phantom Five Tour across North America and Europe. A shared love of surfing quickly turned into a creative connection. That bond came full circle when producer and Villains For Good label head Jimmy Messer brought them into the studio together.
With its mix of heartfelt tribute and imaginative visuals, the “Catch A Wave” video expands the song’s dedication to the all the watermen who shaped surf culture.
