Modest Mouse are officially back with a new era, announcing their upcoming album An Eraser and a Maze, set for release June 5 via Glacial Pace and Virgin Records.
Alongside the announcement, the band has dropped a new single, “Picking Dragon’s Pockets,” offering another glimpse into the project’s direction following the earlier release of “Look How Far…” The track leans into the band’s signature mix of off-kilter indie rock and introspective lyricism, continuing the sound they’ve refined over decades.
Frontman Isaac Brock began working on the material shortly after 2021’s The Golden Casket, initially considering releasing a smaller batch of songs under his side project before ultimately shaping them into a full Modest Mouse album. The project is produced by Brock, with additional production from Jacknife Lee, Suzy Shinn, and Justin Raisen.
“For this one, I turned off my filter and just let it all happen,” Brock said, describing a more instinctive and unfiltered creative process behind the album.
Along with the album news, Modest Mouse have expanded their already packed touring schedule, adding a full fall leg that stretches across North America as they continue celebrating 30 years as a band.
The run includes stops in major cities like Toronto, New York, New Orleans, Austin, and Los Angeles, alongside festival appearances throughout the summer.
With An Eraser and a Maze, Modest Mouse continue to evolve while staying rooted in the unpredictable, emotionally layered songwriting that’s defined their career. “Picking Dragon’s Pockets” points toward a record that embraces that unpredictability, balancing chaos and clarity in a way only they can.
