Godsmack Sully Erna Confirms Romantic Relationship with Dorthy

Sully Erna has confirmed a new chapter in his personal life, revealing during a recent radio appearance that he is in a relationship with Dorothy Martin, the powerhouse voice behind Dorothy. The announcement came during an April 23 interview on Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk, where both artists opened up about the connection that brought them together.

Erna, known for his commanding presence in Godsmack, explained that their relationship grew organically out of shared life experiences, particularly around past relationships and emotional challenges. Reflecting on their creative and personal bond, he said: “Me and her connected originally because we both went through some history and with bad relationships. A lot of people kind of go through these things, but we have the opportunity to kind of voice it and vent it through our art. So we both kind of had gone through a similar situation that just felt really appropriate to kind of write about it and set it free. And the song became obvious. And it’s just a down-and-dirty good hard rock song. And it’s not a ballad, it’s nothing sappy. It’s actually the opposite.”

That shared perspective appears to have fueled not only a creative partnership but a deeper emotional connection. The two artists, both known for channeling raw intensity into their music, found common ground in turning personal hardship into something cathartic and powerful.

Martin, who recently celebrated her 40th birthday, echoed that sentiment during the same interview, offering a glimpse into the personal side of their relationship. Speaking candidly about Erna, she said: “I love this man. He’s such a good, solid man. I feel safe with him. And we had a wonderful friendship for months and months. I’ve never laughed so much in my life. My face hurts.”

The revelation adds a new layer of intrigue for fans of both artists, who have long been recognized for their emotionally charged songwriting and commanding stage presence. While Erna, 58, has spent decades at the forefront of modern rock, Martin has carved out her own lane with a bluesy, hard rock revival sound that has earned widespread acclaim.

Now, with their personal and creative lives intersecting, the pairing of Erna and Martin feels like a natural extension of their artistry—two voices shaped by experience, finding both inspiration and companionship in each other.
