Lola Young Returns With New James Blake-Created Single “From Down Here”

Lola Young is back with a new single, “From Down Here,” marking her first new music since the release of I’m Only F**king Myself and the massive breakthrough of “Messy.” The track arrived May 22 and was created with James Blake, placing Young’s raw, raspy vocal presence inside a more spacious and emotionally heavy sound.

For an artist who has built her name on emotional directness, “From Down Here” feels like a fitting reset. The song sits in the strange aftermath of a life-changing year, balancing vulnerability, exhaustion, and forward motion without sanding down the edges that made Young connect in the first place. It is not a glossy victory lap. It sounds more like someone catching their breath after the chaos, then deciding to keep moving.

“The day after the GRAMMYs, I had a wave of inspiration hit me, so I got in the studio with the incredible James Blake and made this song,” Young said of the track. “I am rewriting the next chapter of my story because what a boring book the old one would’ve been anyway.”

That Grammy moment was a major one. Young won Best Pop Solo Performance for “Messy” at the 2026 Grammy Awards and was also nominated for Best New Artist, cementing her arrival as one of pop’s most unpredictable new voices.

“Messy” had already turned into a global breakout before Grammy night. The single hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Pop Airplay chart, reached No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100, and spent four straight weeks at No. 1 on the UK Official Singles Chart.

“From Down Here” does not chase the same viral spark. Instead, it leans into atmosphere, tension, and Young’s ability to make bruised honesty feel huge. James Blake’s influence can be felt in the track’s spacious production, giving her voice room to stretch, crack, and command attention.

Young will also return to the stage this year with a run of UK headline dates in Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, and London, followed by U.S. festival appearances at All Things Go in September and Austin City Limits in October.

For fans who found Lola Young through “Messy,” “From Down Here” offers a deeper look at where she might go next. It is darker, more patient, and more reflective, but it still carries the same unfiltered emotional punch that made her impossible to ignore.
