Billy Morrison has released his new single “Hollow,” the title track from his upcoming album of the same name, due out August 7 via TLG | ZOID, distributed by Virgin Music Group.
The British guitarist, singer, songwriter, and longtime Billy Idol band member leans into some of the darkest parts of his own story on the new track. “Hollow” is autobiographical, pulling from Morrison’s past experiences with homelessness and heroin addiction before finding a way out of that chapter of his life.
The single arrives alongside a new lyric video directed by Mike Savage, who also helmed Morrison’s recent short film Who the F%@K is Billy Morrison? The “Hollow” visual uses a mix of black and white urban imagery, surreal color, and lyric-driven storytelling to match the heavy emotional weight of the track.
“The title track to my new album was inspired by the life that I led when I was homeless and addicted to heroin,” Morrison says. “Begging for money on the streets and being the guy that people crossed the street from, I would watch people’s faces as they walked towards me, gradually realizing they had to walk past me and being disgusted at how dirty I was, or that I was begging for change. That leaves an indelible mark on your soul and the song is about slowly crawling out of that hollow life.”
Musically, “Hollow” finds Morrison stepping further into the spotlight as both a vocalist and lead guitarist. Known for years as a rhythm guitar force alongside Steve Stevens in Billy Idol’s band, Morrison lets the new single stretch into stadium-sized guitar lines, sweeping solos, and a dramatic rock arrangement built around personal recovery and survival.
“Hollow” follows the album’s first single, “Becoming,” featuring Sully Erna of Godsmack and Grammy-winning Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt. The track has already climbed rock radio, reaching No. 20 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart.
Morrison’s upcoming album Hollow will include 12 songs, with half sung by Morrison and half performed by a stacked lineup of guests. Featured artists include Dexter Holland, Marilyn Manson, Chuck D, B-Real, Duff McKagan, Steve Stevens, DMC, Sully Erna, Nuno Bettencourt, and more. Songs on the project include “Forgive Me,” “The Tailor,” “No Suspects,” “Another Day,” “Leave No Trace,” and “Becoming.”
The new album follows Morrison’s 2024 solo release The Morrison Project, which included the No. 1 Active Rock single “Crack Cocaine,” featuring Ozzy Osbourne and Steve Stevens. A deluxe edition arrived in 2025, with the bonus track “Gods Of Rock and Roll (Orchestral)” also featuring Osbourne and Stevens.
Beyond his solo work, Morrison has spent the past 17 years as Billy Idol’s rhythm guitarist and has also played with The Cult and Circus Diablo. He currently performs with the all-star cover band The Royal Machines, works as a contemporary fine artist, and hosts Influenced on SiriusXM’s Ozzy’s Boneyard.
With “Hollow,” Morrison is not just previewing another hard rock record. He is opening the door to a deeply personal album shaped by survival, self-reflection, and the long road back from the edge.
