Social Distortion Bring the Grit to This Week’s Skratch N Sniff Alt and Rock Shows With a Mike Ness Mini Mix

This week on Skratch N Sniff, the guitars get louder, the attitude gets sharper and the whole show gets a dose of Southern California punk rock history as Social Distortion take over both the Alt Mix and Rock Mix with a special Mike Ness Mini Mix.

The promo sets the tone fast. It feels like a jukebox getting kicked into overdrive, cutting through the raw voice, road-worn guitar tones and outlaw rock and roll spirit that have made Social Distortion one of the most enduring bands to ever come out of the Southern California punk scene. This is not just a quick classic-rock nod. It is a full-on Mike Ness moment built for the Skratch N Sniff remix universe.

Both Alternative Mix 704 and Rock Mix 1220 feature the same Social Distortion and Mike Ness block in Segment 4, running through “Born To Kill,” Social Distortion’s unmistakable version of “Ring of Fire,” “Partners In Crime,” Mike Ness’ solo take on “Don’t Think Twice,” and the all-time Social D anthem “Story Of My Life.”

It is a mini mix that makes perfect sense for Skratch N Sniff. Social Distortion have always lived at the crossroads of punk, rockabilly, roots music, country grit and straight-ahead rock and roll. Mike Ness’ songs carry the weight of heartbreak, rebellion, regret and survival, but they still hit with the kind of energy that can turn a room into a singalong. Dropping that catalog into the SNS format gives this week’s shows a rough-edged, high-voltage centerpiece.

On the Alt Mix, the Social Distortion Mini Mix lands inside a wide-ranging episode featuring Cage The Elephant, Big Data, Almost Monday, The Maine, honestav with MGK, Weezer, Lauren Sanderson with Fred Durst, My Chemical Romance, Myles Smith, Sam Fender, Death Cab For Cutie, Beck, Dirty Heads, Slum Beach Posse with DENM, Jesse James Pariah and Landon McNamara, Bad Omens, Pierce The Veil, Kings Of Leon, M83 and Joyce Manor.

Alternative Mix 704 also includes this week’s ThePier.org Feature Song, Johnny Cosmic’s “Silver Lining.” Johnny Cosmic, known as the guitarist for Stick Figure and as a producer behind releases from The Movement, SOJA and Trevor Hall, continues to carve out his own lane with a track that blends alternative, indie, reggae-rock and folk influences into a laid-back, melodic release.

On the Rock Mix, the Social Distortion Mini Mix is surrounded by a heavier lineup featuring Van Halen, Disturbed, Jeris Johnson, Black Sabbath, A Perfect Circle, Linkin Park, Turnstile, Limp Bizkit, Fozzy, Papa Roach, Metallica, Saosin, Sleep Token, Hollywood Undead, Soundgarden, The Hu featuring Jonny Hawkins of Nothing More, Pop Evil, System Of A Down, Autumn Kings, P.O.D., Everlast, Aerosmith and Architects.

Together, this week’s Alt and Rock shows capture exactly what Skratch N Sniff does best: classic songs, new music, left-field remixes, rock history and genre-blending chaos all packed into one high-energy radio experience.
