Skratch N’ Sniff Radio returned this past weekend with two more genre-blurring shows, combining new alternative and rock releases with remixes of familiar favorites, emerging artists and a special Dirty Heads Mini Mix.
Alternative Mix #708 leaned into the full range of the format, moving between indie rock, alternative pop, reggae-rock and electronic reworks. Rock Mix #1224 took a heavier route, pairing new music from established names with remixed tracks from Nirvana, Metallica, Tool, Rage Against the Machine and more.
Dirty Heads Lead Alternative Mix #708
The Alternative Mix opened with tookind and Madb’s remix of Fall Out Boy’s “Sugar, We’re Goin Down,” followed by a Spoone remix of Dexter and the Moonrocks’ “Freakin Out.” Newer selections from Judah & The Lion and Bob Moses appeared alongside Desmond’s remix of Phantogram’s “Fall in Love.”
The second segment kept the contrast moving. Kastra reworked the Goo Goo Dolls classic “Iris,” while Bad Press entered the show with “Circle Round.” Sam Fender and Olivia Dean’s “Rein Me In” received a Jesse Jay remix, followed by Sonny Fodera’s take on Glass Animals’ “Heat Waves” and Ecca Vandal’s “Cruising to Self Soothe.”
Linkin Park opened Segment 3 with the Mellen Gi and Tommy Profitt remix of “In the End.” The block also featured Strange Case’s “Waiting for the Weekend,” a high-speed Fuzz remix of Metro Station’s “Shake It,” Gryffin’s rework of Portugal. The Man’s “Feel It Still” and Cage the Elephant’s “Beaches in Tennessee.”
The centerpiece of the show arrived in Segment 4, when Dirty Heads took over for a five-song Mini Mix.
The dedicated block opened with “One of Those Days” before moving through “My Sweet Summer,” “Rescue Me,” “Franco Eyed” and the band’s version of “Life’s Been Good.” Together, the selections connected different periods of the Dirty Heads catalog, from longtime fan favorites to music from the group’s current chapter.
Alternative Mix #708 then shifted toward reggae-rock and independent discovery. Jesse James Pariah’s “Pariah” was selected as ThePier.org Song of the Week, appearing alongside Sublime’s “Until the Sun Explodes,” a Super Future and eRoy remix of 311’s “Amber” and Slightly Stoopid’s “Back Seat Drivin’” featuring G. Love.
The final segment brought the show back toward indie and alternative rock. Death Cab for Cutie’s “Riptides” led into a remix of Modest Mouse’s “Float On,” Almost Monday’s “No More Regrets,” a Petrichor remix of Twenty One Pilots’ “Heavydirtysoul” and Joyce Manor’s “I Used to Go to This Bar.”
Rock Mix #1224 Turns Up the Pressure
The Rock Mix began with Don Diablo’s remix of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” immediately establishing the show’s combination of recognizable rock records and electronic production.
Red Leather followed with “American Dream,” while Dexter and the Moonrocks returned through Spoone’s remix of “Freakin Out.” Saint Rigal’s version of Incubus’ “Megalomaniac” and Corrosion of Conformity’s “Baad Man” completed the opening segment.
Segment 2 balanced modern rock with reworked staples. Three Days Grace’s “Animal I Have Become” received a Duma remix, while Letdown. appeared with “Do It for the Love.” The segment also included Steve Aoki’s remix of Soundgarden’s “Spoonman,” Sunshine’s version of Rob Zombie’s “Living Dead Girl” and Saosin’s “Starting Over Again.”
The third segment moved deeper into metal. Metallica’s “Wherever I May Roam,” Tool’s “Schism” and System of a Down’s “B.Y.O.B.” were all presented through remixes. Atreyu contributed “All for You,” while The Hu teamed with Jonny Hawkins of Nothing More on “Lost Soul.”
Linkin Park and Cage the Elephant crossed over from the Alternative Mix into Segment 4 of the Rock Mix. They were joined by MBNN’s remix of Stone Sour’s “Through Glass,” Chemical Disco’s take on Pearl Jam’s “Even Flow” and Fozzy’s “I Know Evil.”
The fifth segment brought together several different generations of heavy music. Papa Roach’s “See You in Hell” featuring HUNNYKIND led into Venture 5’s remix of Sleep Token’s “Emergence.” From Ashes to New followed with “Die for You,” while Groove Delight reworked P.O.D.’s “Youth of the Nation.”
MGK and Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst closed the segment with “FIX UR FACE,” a collaboration that draws directly from the loud, confrontational energy of nu-metal.
Rock Mix #1224 finished with a final run featuring Rage Against the Machine, Autumn Kings, Slipknot, Turnstile and Architects. Mania and Jonth remixed “Killing in the Name,” while the closing selections included Autumn Kings’ “Gone, Gone, Gone,” a Debice remix of Slipknot’s “(sic),” a Stretch remix of Turnstile’s “Blackout” and Architects’ “Broken Mirror.”
Both shows demonstrated what Skratch N’ Sniff continues to do best: placing established songs, new releases, underground discoveries and unexpected remixes inside the same weekly mix.
