Skratch N Sniff Radio returned for the weekend of August 8 with two more genre-bending shows built around the format that has defined the program for years: alternative and rock favorites rebuilt through electronic remixes, current releases pushed alongside established names, and enough stylistic left turns to keep both six-segment mixes moving.
Alternative Mix #710 brings together Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes, The Killers, Linkin Park, Slightly Stoopid, honestav, Strange Case and more, while Rock Mix #1226 pushes things heavier with Metallica, Rage Against the Machine, Black Sabbath, Architects, Atreyu, Marilyn Manson, Tom Morello and Fozzy.
At the center of the Alt show is this week’s ThePier.org Song of the Week, Badfish and SunDub’s “Topanga.”
The Pier Song of the Week: Badfish & SunDub “Topanga”
For more than two decades, Badfish have built a massive touring following through their celebration of Sublime’s catalog, but their story has increasingly included music of their own. “Topanga,” featuring SunDub and released through Ineffable Records, continues that evolution.
Released June 26, “Topanga” pairs Badfish with SunDub for a laid-back reggae-rock track built around the kind of coastal atmosphere that connects naturally with both bands. It has quickly become one of the more visible entries in Badfish’s growing collection of original material, joining recent releases including “WAY UP,” “Surf Party Lord” featuring Mihali, and “High With You” featuring Little Stranger.
That makes “Topanga” an easy fit for The Pier Song of the Week. Badfish’s roots are inseparable from Sublime, but their continued move into original music shows a band increasingly interested in expanding the identity they have built on the road. SunDub brings another piece of the contemporary American reggae scene into the collaboration, and the result fits squarely into the space between reggae, alternative rock and Southern California beach culture that has long connected The Pier and Skratch N Sniff audiences.
“Topanga” lands in Segment 4 of Alternative Mix #710, positioned between a Jersey remix of Phoenix’s “1901” and a Cash Cash remix of lovelytheband’s “Broken.” That placement also sums up the SNS format particularly well. A reggae-rock collaboration can sit between two dance-oriented flips of alternative radio staples without the transition feeling out of place.
Alternative Mix #710 Moves Between New Music and Alt Classics
Alternative Mix #710 opens with Arctic Monkeys’ “R U Mine?” getting the Sense remix treatment before moving into Oliver’s remix of Big Data’s “Dangerous.” From there, the show shifts toward current guitar music with Dead Poet Society’s “Cold,” then brings The All-American Rejects’ “Move Along” back through the DJZ Best Part Missing Remix before closing the opening segment with The Paradox’s “I Kinda Like That.”
Segment 2 continues that back-and-forth between familiar alternative records and newer releases. Linkin Park’s “Somewhere I Belong” gets rebuilt by Patient before The Strokes enter with “Going Shopping.”
“Going Shopping” has become one of the key songs from The Strokes’ 2026 return, giving the show a current counterpart to the early-2000s records scattered throughout the mix. The band has been performing the song throughout its current live run, including during its August Outside Lands appearance.
The White Stripes’ “Fell in Love With a Girl” follows through a Lewd Behavior remix, alongside Dexter and the Moonrocks’ “Freakin Out” remixed by Spoone and Ecca Vandal’s “Cruising to Self Soothe.”
The third segment leans into some of the biggest melodies in alternative music. The Killers’ “Mr. Brightside” gets a Fitch remix, Bad Press return with “Circle Round,” The Neighbourhood’s “Private” appears in an FLCO remix and sombr’s “12 to 12” is transformed by Devault before almost monday closes the run with “No More Regrets.”
Then comes “Topanga.”
After Badfish and SunDub take the Song of the Week slot, SNS moves immediately back into the remix side of the show with lovelytheband and BØRNS before honestav and mgk’s “Crash First” closes Segment 4.
The final third of the show keeps widening the range.
Coldplay’s “Clocks” and The Fray’s “You Found Me” both return through new remix contexts, while In Color’s “High” gives the sequence another current alternative cut. Pierce The Veil’s “So Far So Fake” gets the Xuinn treatment before Slightly Stoopid and G. Love bring reggae back into the mix with “Back Seat Drivin’.”
Segment 6 closes the Alt show with another run connecting generations. Twenty One Pilots’ “Stressed Out” and Gorillaz’s “Feel Good Inc.” arrive through Dave Winnel and Hairitage remixes, while Balu Brigada, Strange Case and Edgehill represent the newer side of the playlist.
Strange Case’s “Waiting for the Weekend” is especially fitting after the Ventura County band’s release of Gone for a While, bringing the rising Southern California group into the same hour as artists that helped establish the modern alternative-radio format.
Rock Mix #1226 Turns Up the Weight
Rock Mix #1226 takes the same SNS philosophy and pushes it considerably heavier.
The opening segment moves from an ILLENIUM remix of Nirvana’s “Something in the Way” into Dead Poet Society’s “Cold,” Dexter and the Moonrocks, a Father Mercy remix of Korn’s “Coming Undone” and From Ashes To New’s “Die for You.”
The second segment immediately jumps backward with Van Halen’s “Panama,” remixed by Moonlight, before landing on one of the show’s most notable new records: Tom Morello’s “Date Night.”
Released July 28, “Date Night” introduced Morello’s next solo era ahead of Everyone Gets Everything They Want, due September 25. The song features Morello alongside his son Roman Morello, who also shares writing duties across multiple songs on the upcoming record.
Disturbed and Breaking Benjamin follow through remixes of “Stupify” and “The Diary of Jane,” while Cage The Elephant’s “Beaches in Tennessee” closes the segment. Cage The Elephant released “Beaches in Tennessee” as a new single in July, giving SNS another current track surrounded by records listeners have known for years.
Segment 3 makes perhaps the biggest statement of the entire Rock Mix by dropping Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” without needing a remix at all. Godsmack’s “I Stand Alone” and System of a Down’s “Toxicity” are then pulled into electronic territory, surrounding Papa Roach’s “See You in Hell” featuring Humankind and Ninth Key’s “Happy Feels Like.”
Rage Against the Machine opens Segment 4 with Just A Tune’s remix of “Killing in the Name,” followed by Marilyn Manson’s “Exit Wound.” The latter arrived earlier this year as part of Manson’s 2026 release cycle.
Daughtry and Linkin Park keep the remix momentum going before Architects’ “Broken Mirror” closes the segment.
The fifth block moves between glam, alternative metal and modern heavy rock. Poison’s “Nothin’ But a Good Time” gets the Fitch treatment before SNS reaches back to Faith No More’s “Epic” through a Utah Saints remix. Atreyu’s “All for You” provides a current counterweight, appearing after its release earlier this year as part of the band’s The End Is Not the End era.
Pop Evil and Autumn Kings round out the segment before the final stretch opens with one of rock’s most enduring anti-war songs, Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs,” reconstructed by Meduso.
Letdown.’s “Do It for the Love” leads into a Debice Destroy remix of Turnstile’s “Birds,” then Tool’s “The Pot” receives the drum-and-bass treatment before Fozzy closes Rock Mix #1226 with “I Know Evil.”
Released earlier in 2026, “I Know Evil” continues Fozzy’s recent run of standalone material and gives the final segment a contemporary hard-rock finish after a show that reaches all the way back through Black Sabbath, Van Halen and Metallica.
Two Sides of Skratch N Sniff
Taken together, Alternative Mix #710 and Rock Mix #1226 show why the Skratch N Sniff format continues to work.
These are not simply playlists of new songs, nor are they nostalgia-driven collections of established hits. Arctic Monkeys can be remixed next to Dead Poet Society. Badfish and SunDub can move into lovelytheband. Metallica can sit beside Papa Roach before System of a Down gets pulled into electronic territory. A new Tom Morello song can share a segment with Van Halen, Disturbed and Cage The Elephant.
The connective tissue is the mix itself.
This week, that approach also creates the perfect landing spot for Badfish and SunDub. “Topanga” brings reggae into the middle of the Alternative Mix without interrupting its momentum, giving The Pier Song of the Week a spotlight while reinforcing the increasingly open boundaries between reggae, alternative and rock.
