Skratch N Sniff returned for the weekend of August 15, 2026 with another pair of shows connecting new alternative and rock releases with electronic reworks of songs that have helped shape both formats.
Alternative Mix #711 moves between Cage The Elephant, Good Charlotte, Tame Impala, Weezer, Social Distortion, Paramore, Slightly Stoopid, honestav and more, while Rock Mix #1227 turns toward the heavier side of the spectrum with AC/DC, Korn, Rage Against the Machine, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Tool, Slipknot and a growing group of current rock artists.
At the center of the Alternative Mix is this week’s ThePier.org Song of the Week, Jakobs Castle’s “Vincent Thomas,” arriving just as Jakob Nowell gives the track another dimension with a newly released acoustic version.
Jakobs Castle Takes The Pier Song of the Week
Jakobs Castle’s “Vincent Thomas” lands in Segment 4 of Alternative Mix #711, putting one of Jakob Nowell’s most personal recent songs directly in the middle of this week’s Skratch N Sniff.
Produced by Jon Joseph, “Vincent Thomas” takes its name from the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro and turns the Southern California landmark into part of the strange, dark and sometimes humorous world Nowell has built around Jakobs Castle.
The song pulls together surf-grunge melody, alternative hooks and the unmistakable influence of the Southern California environment that has surrounded Nowell throughout his life. As he previously explained, the bridge represents everything from local music and literary history to his own experiences recording with Sublime in San Pedro.
The Song of the Week placement also arrives alongside a new acoustic version of “Vincent Thomas,” which Nowell recently released online. Stripping the track back places more focus on the songwriting beneath its original production and offers another look at the identity he continues to build outside of Sublime.
That makes “Vincent Thomas” an especially natural fit for The Pier Song of the Week. Jakob may currently occupy one of the most visible positions in modern alternative and reggae-rock through Sublime, but Jakobs Castle remains the space where his stranger and more personal instincts can run without restriction.
