SNS Mix returned for the weekend of September 12 with two more genre-bending shows, pairing new rock and alternative releases with a deep stack of remixes that pushed familiar songs into entirely different territory.
Rock Mix #1231 went heavy from the opening seconds, while Alternative Mix #715 moved between indie rock, hip-hop, reggae, pop and electronic production. Across the two shows, Van Halen, Korn, Metallica, Linkin Park, Beastie Boys, Sublime, Coldplay, No Doubt and The Killers were all given new life alongside current music from Fontaines D.C., Fozzy, Prong, honestav, Young the Giant, Slightly Stoopid, Little Stranger and more.
Rock Mix #1231
Rock Mix #1231 opened with Van Halen’s “Panama” Moonlight Remix, immediately establishing the show’s balance between classic rock and modern electronic production. Disturbed’s “Stupify” Fus Forbidden Remix followed before the set shifted into newer material from Holding Absence with “Modern Life Is Lonely” and Native James featuring Frisco on “Never Been Scared”.
The heavier side of the remix world continued throughout the show.
Korn’s “Coming Undone” Father Mercy Remix, Hollow Pact’s “Witchking” and Nirvana’s “Something In The Way” Illenium Remix carried Segment Two alongside Dexter And The Moonrocks’ “Freakin Out” Spoone Remix and Five Finger Death Punch’s “Nails In The Coffin”.
Segment Three opened with Godsmack’s “I Stand Alone” Seven Eyed Remix before moving into Fozzy’s “All I Know Is Evil”, System Of A Down’s “Toxicity” Deep Delic Remix, Daughtry’s “It’s Not Over” Frenchcore Remix and Story of the Year’s “Disconnected”.
By Segment Four, things got even heavier. Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” Flozone Remix landed alongside Prong’s “The Banner”, Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” Meduso Remix, Pop Evil’s “Eye Of The Storm” Into The Vortex Remix and Wake Me’s “Wolves”.
The final stretch of the show kept that momentum intact. Linkin Park’s “Somewhere I Belong” Patient Remix, Papa Roach’s “See You In Hell” featuring Humankind, Faith No More’s “Epic” Utah Saints Remix, Turnstile’s “Birds” Debice Destroy Remix and Dead Poet Society’s “Cold” rounded out Segment Five.
Rock Mix #1231 closed with another especially chaotic run: Poison’s “Nothin’ But A Good Time” Fitch Remix, From Ashes To New’s “Die For You”, Tool’s “The Pot” DNB Remix, Three Days Grace’s “Animal I Have Become” Duma Remix and Letdown.’s “Do It For The Love”.
Alternative Mix #715
Alternative Mix #715 approached the weekend from the opposite direction, opening with the Beastie Boys x Chemical Brothers “INTER-GO-LACTIC” mashup before moving into Balu Brigada’s “So Cold” Slater Frey Remix, In Color’s “High”, Tame Impala’s “Breathe Deeper” Jaii O Remix and Fontaines D.C.’s “Marianne”.
That mix of new alternative releases and dance-floor reinterpretations remained at the center of the show.
Cold War Kids’ “Hang Me Up To Dry” Takimba And Maxwell Cutty Remix, Strange Case’s “Waiting For The Weekend”, Cherub’s “Doses And Mimosas” SandiBuns Remix, Fitz And The Tantrums’ “Out Of My League” Conrad Remix and New Constellations’ “Hot Blooded” carried Segment Two.
Segment Three moved through several generations of alternative music, pairing We The Kings’ “Check Yes Juliet” Highness Remix with Ecca Vandal’s “Cruising To Self Soothe”, Sublime’s “Doin’ Time” Common Creation Remix, Alt-J’s “Breezeblocks” Levity Remix and LEAP’s “Exit Signs”.
Then came this week’s ThePier.org Song of the Week.
ThePier.org Song of the Week: Little Stranger, “Iggy Radio”
SNS featured the clean show edit of Little Stranger’s “Iggy Radio”, the opening track from the duo’s new album Broken Hearted Boys Club.
Released July 17 through Ineffable Records, Broken Hearted Boys Club is Little Stranger’s 12-track follow-up to 2024’s Sat Around Trippin’. “Iggy Radio” kicks off the record before an album that also includes collaborations with Jarv, Z-Trip, Andy Frasco & The U.N., Wax, DJ Hoppa, Damn Skippy and others.
The song landed perfectly in a fourth segment that showed how wide the Alternative Mix can stretch. It followed Coldplay’s “Adventure Of A Lifetime” CID Remix and was followed by No Doubt’s “Don’t Speak” Doreen Enzo Remix, Two Door Cinema Club’s “What You Know” Seeing Double Remix and Slightly Stoopid with G. Love’s “Back Seat Drivin'”.
From honestav and mgk to The Killers
The final two Alternative Mix segments kept moving in every direction.
Djo’s “End Of Beginning” Ayokay Remix opened Segment Five before honestav featuring mgk’s “Crash First”, Steve Lacy’s “Bad Habit” Disco Lines Remix, Twenty One Pilots’ “Heavydirtysoul” Petrichor Remix and another appearance from Dead Poet Society’s “Cold”.
The weekend then wrapped with The Killers’ “When You Were Young” Calvin Harris Remix, Young The Giant’s “Evergreen”, Phoenix’s “1901” Jersey Remix, an Arctic Monkeys “505” Burn The Disco And Stovetops Remix and Bad Press’ “Circle Round”.
Together, Rock Mix #1231 and Alternative Mix #715 showed exactly what SNS continues to do best: put brand-new music next to songs listeners already know, then find remixes, edits and unexpected combinations that make both sides sound different.
