Emerging rock band Visitor Coach explores the emotional weight of being separated from someone you love on its new single, “You.”
Written by vocalist and guitarist Monty about the period when he and his girlfriend were in a long-distance relationship, “You” captures the love, longing and desire that can make time apart so difficult.
“The inspiration behind ‘You’ came from when my girlfriend and I were long distance,” Monty explains. “Musically, a lot of the inspiration came from ‘Up in Arms’ by Foo Fighters.”
Beginning with a soft and restrained arrangement, “You” gradually builds into a powerful rock conclusion. The dynamic progression gives Visitor Coach an opportunity to step outside the heavier sound of its previous releases and embrace a more melodic, pop-influenced side of the band.
“This release is special because I wrote it about someone who is very close to me,” Monty says. “It takes a different direction from our normal heavy rock sound and leans into more of that poppy Foo Fighters kind of sound. I think it will give listeners something fresh while still being authentic to who we are.”
The song’s intentionally universal title allows listeners to connect its story to their own relationships and experiences.
“I titled it ‘You’ so that anyone could relate to the track without it having the concrete name of one person,” Monty adds. “It’s for anyone who struggles with missing and being apart from someone they love.”
Recorded in the apartment of Visitor Coach’s former guitarist, “You” was created entirely by the band without an outside producer, engineer or guest musician. The recording process was largely straightforward, although the band spent considerable time searching for the right guitar tone to complement the song’s clean opening.
Monty’s songwriting approach is rooted in simplicity and immediacy, drawing inspiration from Kurt Cobain’s ability to create music that is direct, catchy and memorable. Collaboration also remains an important part of the process, allowing each member of Visitor Coach to bring a different perspective to the material.
Visitor Coach is a rock band based in Seattle, Washington. Formed in June 2025, the band combines the melodic immediacy of Green Day and Foo Fighters with the raw alternative influence of Nirvana, Local H and Turnstile. Built around simple, catchy and memorable songwriting, Visitor Coach continues to expand its sound while remaining grounded in the music that first brought its members together.
With its intimate subject matter, restrained opening and explosive finish, “You” introduces a different dimension of Visitor Coach without abandoning the energy at the heart of the band’s music.
