SLIPKNOT frontman Corey Taylor teamed up with Tom Kenny, the voice behind SpongeBob in the beloved show “SpongeBob SquarePants,” to deliver a remarkable rendition of the show’s theme song during the Huntington Comic And Toy Convention this past weekend. The captivating performance, captured on video, is a must-see moment for fans.
This isn’t the first instance of Corey Taylor showcasing his vocal talents on the “SpongeBob” track. For well over a decade, Taylor has included the song in his solo concerts, enchanting audiences with his distinctive rendition. Notably, he sang it on last year’s ShipRocked cruise and also graced the 2022 Spookala Horror Convention in Ocala, Florida with his performance.
In a candid interview back in 2020 with Montreal Rocks, Taylor was asked whether fans could anticipate a studio recording of “SpongeBob SquarePants.” His response was insightful:
“It’s quite the conundrum, really. Strangely enough, it both amuses and perplexes me that this song ranks among the most requested at my acoustic gigs. The reason I initially learned the song was to forge a musical connection with my son. Thus, it’s challenging for me to decline such requests. I’ve even incorporated it into my set on several occasions, sometimes even unexpectedly, like when I did a unique version for the online critic known as the Nostalgia Critic. I ponder whether a full-band rendition could astonish and intrigue folks. So, who’s to say? Predicting the future is a curious endeavor. But I must admit, it’s undeniably amusing. That’s the long and short of it.”
The Huntington Comic And Toy Convention this year was a grand affair, featuring more than 200 vendors and a diverse array of panelists. Reportedly, the convention drew an impressive attendance of over 4,000 enthusiasts.
Exciting times are ahead for Corey Taylor, as he gears up for the release of his second solo album, “CMF2,” scheduled to drop on September 15. Marking his debut album with BMG and the inaugural release on his personal label imprint, Decibel Cooper Recordings, “CMF2” holds great promise.
In a noteworthy achievement, the lead single from “CMF2,” titled “Beyond,” achieved a remarkable feat by reaching the Top 15 on Rock Radio within just six weeks of its release. Furthermore, the song earned the distinguished honor of gracing the cover and securing the No. 1 spot on the Rock Hard playlist on Spotify. The anticipation and excitement surrounding “CMF2” continue to build, and fans are eagerly awaiting its arrival.
