Last week we saw Sublime use vocals from the late Bradley Nowell. Today we get a bassline from the late Cluff Burton on the new Apocalyptica track.
Get ready.. Apocalyptica is dropping the final single from their killer new album, “Apocalyptica Plays Metallica, Vol. 2.” This epic sequel to their groundbreaking debut is bringing us “The Call of Ktulu” along with the album’s release. Following the massive hype from their previous singles—with covers of “The Four Horsemen,” “The Unforgiven II,” and “One”.
“The Call of Ktulu” features the legendary bass lines of none other than Metallica’s own Cliff Burton.
“Apocalyptica Plays Metallica Vol. 2” is a blast from the past with a twist. These guys, hailing from the prestigious Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, first paid symphonic homage to Metallica back in ’96. Now, they’re circling back to their roots for their ninth album, packed with surprises. Get stoked for guest appearances from James Hetfield, Rob Trujillo, and the unforgettable bassline from Cliff Burton on “The Call of Ktulu.” It’s a nod to the metal legend who tragically passed in a bus accident in ’86.
This latest version of “The Call Of Ktulu,” which originally rocked the world on Metallica’s 1984 album “Ride The Lightning,” isn’t just a cover. It’s a heartfelt tribute and a seal of approval from Metallica and Cliff Burton’s family, all of whom were totally on board. This track is a powerful homage to Cliff’s monumental legacy in the metal world.
Eicca Toppinen, Apocalyptica’s founder, shared his excitement: “I’ve learned in life that if you have crazy ideas, it’s always worth asking, so I called Lars! He was like, ‘I love that you guys always think outside of the box!’ James (Hetfield) loved the idea, and I met one of Cliff’s close relatives and she did too. It was a spiritual experience working on this. We wanted to treat this with honor and maximum respect, and it was magical to have people so close to Cliff say that he would have loved it.”
So, mark your calendars and get ready to rock out with Apocalyptica’s latest homage to Metallica! This is one you don’t want to miss.
