Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2026: Who was Inducted?

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame just unveiled its 2026 class, and like always, it’s less about one genre and more about impact. This year’s lineup leans heavily into icons who shaped entire eras, while continuing the Hall’s slow shift toward a more inclusive definition of “rock and roll.”

The Headliners: From Stadium Rock to Hip-Hop Royalty

Leading the 2026 performer class are:

  • Phil Collins
  • Billy Idol
  • Iron Maiden
  • Joy Division / New Order
  • Oasis
  • Sade
  • Luther Vandross
  • Wu-Tang Clan

It’s a class that moves seamlessly from UK post-punk and Britpop to classic metal, R&B, and hip-hop. For Skratch N Sniff listeners, the standout might be Wu-Tang Clan, a reminder that hip-hop’s influence is now fully cemented in spaces that were once strictly rock-focused.

Phil Collins also makes history as a two-time inductee, while Luther Vandross and Wu-Tang Clan both get in on their first nomination.

The Hall continues to expand its reach through additional categories, recognizing foundational voices and behind-the-scenes contributors.

Early influence honorees include Celia Cruz, Fela Kuti, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, and Gram Parsons, a group that reflects the global and genre-spanning roots of modern music.

On the production and industry side, Rick Rubin headlines the Musical Excellence Award recipients, alongside Linda Creed, Arif Mardin, and Jimmy Miller, while legendary TV host Ed Sullivan receives the Ahmet Ertegun Award.

If there’s one clear trend in 2026, it’s that the Hall is still catching up to the full spectrum of what shapes music culture. The class leans heavily on 1980s-era icons, but the inclusion of artists like Wu-Tang Clan and Queen Latifah shows a continued push to recognize hip-hop’s foundational role.

At the same time, fan-favorite acts like New Edition, who actually won the fan vote, were left out, highlighting the ongoing disconnect between public opinion and the Hall’s voting body. (Consequence)

When It Goes Down

The 2026 induction ceremony is set for November 14 in Los Angeles, with a broadcast planned for ABC and Disney+ later in the year.

For Skratch N Sniff, this class hits a little different. It’s a snapshot of how genres collide, rock, hip-hop, R&B, and beyond, the same way they do in our mix every week.
