Rising rock artist Kurt Deimer is leveling up in a big way with the release of his sophomore full-length album A Grog Is Born, out now via his own Bald Man Records. The 12-track project marks a major step forward for Deimer, both sonically and creatively, as he continues to carve out a lane that blends classic hard rock influences with a modern, theatrical edge.
Produced by five-time GRAMMY winner Chris Lord-Alge, known for his work with artists like Green Day and Breaking Benjamin, the album brings a polished but still gritty sound that lets Deimer’s voice and storytelling sit front and center. The project includes the Active Rock Top 40 single “In Deep” featuring Buckcherry’s Josh Todd, along with standout cuts like “Always There,” “Scared To Death,” and the atmospheric focus track “True.”
One of the more unexpected moments on the album comes from Deimer’s reimagining of Phil Collins’ “In The Air Tonight,” which he transforms into a heavier, more aggressive take while still preserving the song’s iconic tension. He also closes the album with a powerful version of Queensrÿche’s “Silent Lucidity,” featuring Geoff Tate himself, adding a full-circle moment for Deimer, who has cited the track as a longtime influence.
A Grog Is Born goes beyond just a collection of songs. The album is closely tied to Deimer’s work in film, specifically his role as “The Grog” in the horror-comedy Scared To Death. That crossover gives the project a conceptual feel, with themes of transformation, struggle, and redemption running throughout. The single “Scared To Death” is featured in the film, and its music video was shot at the same location used during filming, further connecting the two worlds.
Compared to his 2025 debut And So It Begins…, this new release shows noticeable growth. Deimer expands beyond his signature low, spoken-style delivery into a more melodic and dynamic vocal range, exploring everything from heavy, driving rock to more stripped-back and emotional moments. Tracks like “800 AD” lean into darker, almost gothic textures, while songs like “True” offer a more reflective and uplifting tone.
Deimer has also been putting in the work on the road, sharing stages with acts like Drowning Pool, Tesla, Skid Row, Buckcherry, and Steel Panther. That live experience shows up in the energy of the record, which feels built to translate to a stage setting. To support the release of the new album, Deimer and his bandmates will take their rousing live show on the road this spring and summer on the “A Grog Is Born World Tour” featuring a mix of headlining dates and a special night opening for Halestorm. With A Grog Is Born, Kurt Deimer continues to build a unique identity that sits at the intersection of hard rock and cinematic storytelling. It is a project that leans into big hooks, heavier production, and a clear sense of narrative, showing an artist pushing forward and finding his voice in a crowded rock landscape.
