SNS returned for the weekend of July 11 with two packed shows that pushed rock and alternative music far beyond their traditional boundaries. Rock Mix #1222 leaned into heavy guitars, aggressive electronic production and some of the biggest names in hard rock, while Alternative Mix #706 balanced fresh releases with inventive remixes of songs that helped define several generations of alternative music.
Together, the two programs delivered 60 tracks featuring Metallica, Linkin Park, Gorillaz, Nirvana, Green Day, Cypress Hill, Muse, Death Cab for Cutie, Architects, Motionless In White and many more.
Rock Mix #1222
Rock Mix #1222 opened with Pendulum’s remix of Metallica’s “Master of Puppets,” immediately establishing the show’s collision of metal, hard rock and electronic production. The opening segment continued with a Teddy Marquee remix of Powerman 5000’s “When Worlds Collide,” Marilyn Manson’s “Exit Wound,” a King Kavalier reworking of grandson’s “Blood // Water” and Motionless In White’s “R.I.P.” featuring Skylar Grey.
The remix energy continued throughout the show. Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine” received a new spin from Pineo & Loeb, while Soundgarden’s “Outshined,” System of a Down’s “Chop Suey!” and Linkin Park’s “The Emptiness Machine” were reimagined for the SNS format.
Fresh original music was equally important to the mix. Atreyu appeared with “All for You,” Letdown. brought “Do It for the Love,” and Fozzy checked in with “I Know Evil.” Hollywood Undead’s “Feels Like Home” joined a third segment that also included remixes of Foo Fighters’ “My Hero” and Green Day’s “Holiday.”
The second half of the show kept the pressure high with Papa Roach’s “See You in Hell” featuring HUME, Architects’ “Broken Mirror” and a remix of Godsmack’s “Bulletproof.” Nine Inch Nails’ “Head Like a Hole” and AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell” added another pair of familiar rock staples transformed through electronic production.
Rock Mix #1222 also brought together two of the most recognizable figures from the turn-of-the-century rock and rap worlds with MGK and Fred Durst’s “FIX UR FACE.” Saosin followed with “Starting Over Again,” while the final segment included Autumn Kings’ “Gone, Gone, Gone” and a heavy Austeria remix of Sleep Token’s “The Summoning.”
The show closed with two collaborations built around powerful guest appearances. Outlier teamed with Cypress Hill’s Sen Dog and Hyro the Hero for “Superstar,” while Mongolian rock force The HU joined Nothing More frontman Jonny Hawkins on “Lost Soul.”
Alt Mix #706
Alternative Mix #706 opened with a Cidfox remix of Beck’s “Loser,” followed by Cage the Elephant’s “Beaches in Tennessee.” Smashing Pumpkins and The White Stripes also appeared in remixed form before Ecca Vandal closed the first segment with “Cruising to Self Soothe.”
The second segment moved through several generations of alternative rock. Yellowcard’s “Ocean Avenue,” The All-American Rejects’ “Move Along” and The Killers’ “Human” were all given electronic updates, while Butthole Surfers brought “INTELLIGENT GUY (ASTRONAUT VERSION).” Sleep Theory rounded out the set with its take on “Cruel Summer.”
Gorillaz opened the third segment with a Hairitage remix of “Feel Good Inc.,” setting up new music from almost monday and Bad Press. Radiohead’s “Everything in Its Right Place” received a remix from Zedd, while The 1975 and MGMT collided through Leondis’ mashup of “Somebody Else” and “Time to Pretend.”
The fourth segment delivered one of the weekend’s strongest summertime stretches. Cypress Hill’s “Insane in the Brain” was reworked by Dunisco before Cisco Adler’s “Wadin’” arrived as ThePier.org Song of the Week.
Featuring Kash’d Out, “Wadin’” brings together Adler’s relaxed California songwriting and an easygoing reggae-rock groove centered around patience, love and waiting for the right person to arrive. The song was followed by a remix of Vance Joy’s “Fire and the Flood,” a Kasum reworking of Third Eye Blind’s “Semi-Charmed Life” and Slum Beach Posse’s “Sun Come” featuring DENM, Jesse James Pariah and Landon McNamara.
Linkin Park’s “The Emptiness Machine” crossed over from the Rock Mix into the Alternative Mix through the same Voxed remix, showing how naturally the band’s latest era fits across both SNS formats. The Pixies, Twenty One Pilots, Joyce Manor and Jutes completed the fifth segment.
The final run moved from Muse’s “Supermassive Black Hole” into new music from Death Cab for Cutie, whose “Riptides” offered a reflective break between the show’s larger remixes. The Unlikely Candidates’ “Novocaine,” MGK and Fred Durst’s “FIX UR FACE” and a Nautika remix of Blur’s “Song 2” brought Alternative Mix #706 to an energetic conclusion.
