Tom Morello has taken to social media to announce the passing of his mother, Mary Morello, at the age of 102. Mary was a former high school history teacher and lifelong activist, she also founded the anti-censorship organization Parents for Rock and Rap. Her influence on Tom Morello as social activist helped pave the way for his his continued fight against fascism and standing up injustice.
Tom shared news of his mother’s death on Sunday, July 12th, writing in an Instagram post, “Mary Morello is forever with the Rebels of Light & Song. (1923-2026).”
Our hearts at Skratch N Sniff go out to Tom and the entire Morello family for their loss. Mary was truly one of the most iconic rock n’ roll moms our our generation.
