Ventura County’s rising alt/indie rock band Strange Case have officially released their highly anticipated new full-length album, Gone for a While, available now on all major streaming platforms.
After building momentum with fan-favorite singles “27 Club,” “HBK,” and “Sugar,” Gone for a While captures the band’s evolution into one of Southern California’s most exciting young guitar-driven acts. The album expands on Strange Case’s signature blend of shimmering surf guitars, infectious melodies, heartfelt lyricism, and indie rock swagger while introducing folk-inspired songwriting and a broader sonic palette that showcases the band’s continued artistic growth.
Recorded with acclaimed producer Jon Joseph at Harbor Martyr Studios in San Pedro, California, Gone for a While embraces a raw, organic approach to recording that lets the chemistry between the band members shine. Rather than relying on layers of studio polish, the album captures the energy of four musicians playing together in a room, resulting in a warm, authentic sound that feels both timeless and refreshingly modern.
“We wanted this record to feel honest,” says frontman Michael Netka. “Every song comes from a real place, whether it’s about relationships, growing up, or trying to figure out where you belong. Formed by longtime friends Michael Netka and Zane Vandevort, Strange Case have quietly become one of the leading voices in Southern California’s new generation of alternative rock. Alongside Aaron Chapman (bass) and Jackson Morris (drums), the quartet combines the laid-back spirit of California surf culture with the storytelling traditions of classic songwriters like Bob Dylan and Jim Croce, while drawing modern inspiration from artists including Ocean Alley, Cage The Elephant, and The Frights.
The band’s breakout single “27 Club” earned airplay on Los Angeles’ legendary 106.7 KROQ and surpassed 1.6 million Spotify streams, introducing Strange Case to a rapidly growing audience. They later became the first signing to SVN/BVRNT Records, the independent label founded by Jakob Nowell and Zane Vandevort, further cementing their place among Southern California’s most promising emerging artists.
