Bedouin Soundclash & Collie Buddz Bring the Groove With “Bang-A-Lang (J-Vibe Version),” This Week’s Pier Song of the Week on Skratch N Sniff

Canadian reggae-rock veterans Bedouin Soundclash are bringing fresh energy to their collaboration with Collie Buddz on “Bang-A-Lang (J-Vibe Version),” a reimagined take on their recent single that has been selected as The Pier Song of the Week for this weekend’s Skratch N Sniff Alternative Mix #719, airing October 10–11, 2026.

Released through Ineffable Records, the new version sees Bedouin Soundclash team up with producer J-Vibe to revisit the track, bringing a fresh perspective to the band’s signature fusion of reggae, ska, and alternative rock. With Collie Buddz lending his unmistakable vocal style, the collaboration connects two established names in contemporary reggae for a groove-driven release that bridges the Canadian alternative scene and the Caribbean-inspired sounds that have helped define modern American reggae.

For more than two decades, Bedouin Soundclash have built their reputation on an ability to move between musical styles without losing their identity. Formed in Kingston, Ontario, the band emerged in the early 2000s with a sound that combined Jamaican reggae rhythms, punk energy, alternative rock, and melodic pop songwriting.

Their breakthrough arrived with 2004’s Sounding a Mosaic, which featured the hit single “When the Night Feels My Song.” The track became a defining release for the band, helping introduce their distinctive sound to international audiences and establishing them as one of Canada’s most recognizable reggae-influenced alternative acts.

Led by vocalist Jay Malinowski, Bedouin Soundclash have continued exploring the intersections of reggae, soul, ska, and alternative music throughout their career. Rather than remaining tied to the sound of their early records, the group has consistently embraced new musical partnerships and production approaches.

“Bang-A-Lang (J-Vibe Version)” reflects that willingness to experiment.

The track brings producer J-Vibe into the creative process, offering a different interpretation of the original release while retaining the melodic appeal and rhythmic foundation associated with Bedouin Soundclash. Collie Buddz’s contribution adds another dimension to the collaboration, bringing the relaxed yet commanding vocal presence that has made him a fixture in contemporary reggae.

Born in New Orleans and raised in Bermuda, Collie Buddz became internationally recognized with his 2007 breakout single “Come Around.” The song helped establish his reputation for blending reggae and dancehall influences with accessible melodies, eventually becoming a staple within the modern reggae community.

Since then, Buddz has developed an extensive catalog of releases and collaborations, earning a devoted audience through his distinctive vocals and crossover appeal. His presence on “Bang-A-Lang” makes for a natural pairing with Bedouin Soundclash, whose own career has been built around connecting reggae traditions with alternative musical influences.

The new version also arrives amid continued activity for Bedouin Soundclash on the live circuit. The band has recently completed a successful run of theater performances, with its touring schedule also including major events such as California Roots Music and Arts Festival, Pouzza Fest, and Victoria Ska & Reggae Festival.

Those appearances reflect the band’s ability to connect with audiences across different musical communities, from dedicated reggae fans to listeners rooted in ska, punk, and alternative rock.

Bedouin Soundclash have also continued expanding their catalog through new collaborations, including “Islands in the Fog” with singer-songwriter Gizmo Varillas. Together, these releases highlight a period of creative activity that finds the group working with artists whose musical backgrounds complement its genre-blending approach.

The Pier Song of the Week on Alternative Mix #719
