Sublime Frontman Jakob Nowell Releases New Jakobs Castle Single “No One Has To Know”

Jakob Nowell has released the new Jakobs Castle single “No One Has To Know,” produced by Jon Joseph, the same producer behind Sublime’s chart-topping hit “Ensenada” and Jakobs Castle’s previous single “Vincent Thomas.” Released through Nowell and Zayno’s label SVNB/VRNT Records in collaboration with Regime Music Group, the new track arrives following Nowell’s work on Sublime’s new album ‘Until The Sun Explodes’. The single finds Nowell continuing to carve out his own musical identity with an explosive blend of ska, punk, alternative rock, and the genre-bending unpredictability that has become a hallmark of Jakobs Castle.

Driven by an upbeat, bouncing rhythm, punchy guitars, and Nowell’s distinctive vocal delivery, “No One Has To Know” is a frantic collision of melody and controlled chaos. The track moves effortlessly between infectious sing-along hooks, rapid-fire vocal passages, and explosive bursts of distorted guitars, creating a sound that feels both familiar and completely unpredictable. Beneath its deceptively playful exterior, the song explores themes of secrecy, escapism, paranoia, and emotional instability, contrasting its infectious energy with darkly surreal lyrics about disappearing, technological decay, and a world seemingly on the brink of collapse.

For Nowell, the single represents more than another release. It marks a creative turning point following his experiences writing and recording with Sublime, where working alongside the musicians who helped define his father’s legacy has left a lasting impression on his own artistic direction.

“I learned a lot during the process of writing the new Sublime record, I think it’s going to have an effect on my work forever,” said Jakob Nowell. “The Castle was always a safe haven for me to authentically unify the conflicting sounds of my life. I think this single is the first step toward something I’ve been trying to make my entire life.”

That collision of musical influences is at the heart of Jakobs Castle. While Sublime has introduced Nowell to a new generation of fans and placed him firmly in the spotlight, Jakobs Castle remains his creative sanctuary, a place where the expectations of the past give way to unrestricted musical exploration. Drawing from Southern California’s rich punk and reggae history while embracing alternative rock, indie-pop, hyperpop, and experimental sounds, Nowell has created a project that reflects the diverse musical influences and subcultures that shaped his upbringing.

The new single follows Jakobs Castle’s previous release, “Vincent Thomas,” a darkly comedic and deeply personal track inspired by San Pedro’s iconic Vincent Thomas Bridge. Where that song explored the surreal underbelly of Southern California through emotional vulnerability and self-deprecating humor, “No One Has To Know” pushes further into musical experimentation, balancing the carefree spirit of ska-punk with darker lyrical themes and sudden shifts in intensity. Both tracks were produced by Jon Joseph, whose ongoing collaboration with Nowell continues to bridge the creative worlds of Sublime and Jakobs Castle.

Growing up in Southern California as the only child of late Sublime frontman Bradley Nowell, Jakob’s relationship with music has always been intertwined with personal discovery and an extraordinary family legacy. His father passed away when Jakob was just 11 months old, leaving him to navigate a complicated childhood in the shadow of one of the most influential bands of the 1990s. Without traditional parental guidance, he found refuge in music, the internet, and underground subcultures that would ultimately help shape his own creative voice.

After signing with Epitaph Records in 2023, Jakobs Castle released its debut album, Enter: The Castle, in 2024, introducing audiences to Nowell’s distinctive blend of coastal alternative rock, electronic experimentation, and deeply personal songwriting. Since then, the project has toured alongside artists including G. Love & Special Sauce, DENM, and Common Kings, steadily building an audience drawn to its unpredictable sound and unapologetic individuality.

Now, as Sublime enjoys a remarkable resurgence with Until The Sun Explodes, Nowell finds himself balancing two distinct creative worlds. One celebrates and reimagines a musical legacy that has influenced generations, while the other allows him to experiment freely and create something entirely his own.

With “No One Has To Know,” those worlds collide in an exhilarating new way, offering a glimpse into the next chapter of Jakobs Castle and the continued evolution of an artist determined to honour his roots without being defined by them.

Jakobs Castle is also bringing that creative energy overseas, embarking on a European tour beginning October 20th in Paris, France. The run will take the band through France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, and Italy, with performances in Berlin, Hamburg, Vienna, Rome, Milan, and more before wrapping up November 6th.
