Is The Title Giving Us Clues
Stranger Things spoilers follow.
Netflix’s Stranger Things have shared a sneak peek of the fifth and final season with fans.
The sci-fi meets fantasy created by the Duffer Brothers posted a photo of the first page of the script for season 5, episode 1 to mark Stranger Things Day (November 6). The date commemorates when Noah Schnapp’s character Will Byers first went missing in the first season of the show.
“To close out #StrangerThingsDay, very excited to reveal that the Stranger Things 5 premiere episode is titled… THE CRAWL,” Netflix shared on its main Twitter account.
This revelation has sent fans into a frenzy, with some thinking the title of the episode may be a clue about a beloved character’s possible return.
In the season four finale, fan-favourite Eddie Munson (Joe Quinn) dies after being attacked by an army of evil bats in the Upside Down. His life was brought to an end after his epic guitar solo “Master Of Puppets” by Metallica. This scene was the first ugly cry I had in a long while. RIP Eddie
While Eddie’s death seemed pretty final, with Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) crying over his friend’s body, there may be some room to turn this around. At least, that’s what some viewers believe.
According to some viewers, the title of the upcoming episode may be a direct reference to the lyrics of ‘Master of Puppets’ (Come crawling faster / Obey your master), and a potentially a nod to Eddie still being in the game.
“This can’t be a coincidence,” one fan offered, while another commented: “Interesting.”
While this does sound a bit like a stretch, it is a fascinating theory nonetheless. Unfortunately, it will be a long wait to see if this hope was misplaced given Stranger Things season 5 isn’t expected to premiere until 2024.
